The bad condition of the eDonkey2000 network asks questions about the eDonkeyBot responsibility, and thus about its future.
eDonkeyBot was already downloaded 250,000 times and certainly 2 out of 3 edonkey users
(if they are not 3 out of 4) use eDonkeyBot with eDonkey2000.
The SLUG statistics show a slow but constant degradation of the servers availability, which means more and more difficulties
for connection, and decreasing performances in downloading (the saturated servers communicate less sources).
I opened once myself a server which was completely saturated with 50 users as soon as it was identified
in the generic lists (SLUG, Maurice).
Several administrators of eDonkey servers told me their doubts about the incidence of eDonkeyBot (particularly the FAST search)
on the saturation of their server, which results in many UDP port 4665 requests.
So I could not exclude any possible eDonkeyBot responsibility in this situation, and having hesitated during several
weeks about what to do (this explains the absence of new versions), I decided to carry out a 'real size' test.
For this, I must "inactivate " eDonkeyBot, and I exploited an unexpected bug in it to make it "crash".
This will be implemented on April 20, and during several days more, time enough to get an exact report about the condition
of the servers availability. You will be able to look yourself at the network condition using the SLUG statistics.
When this test will end, conclusions will be drawn for the future, and you will know them here.
